The Steve Schenkel Home Page...

Welcome to my home page. I am a guitarist, educator, and composer in the st. louis area. My specialty is jazz, although I love all kinds of music. I play regularly for the St. Louis Municipal Opera and the Fox Theater Orchestra. I also do free-lance work with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, Opera Theater of St. Louis, and the Repertory Theater of St. Louis...I do most of my jazz playing on the faculty concert series at Webster University.

I have been teaching at Webster, which is in a suburb of St. Louis, since 1980. I teach film scoring, jazz theory, jazz improvisation, and the history of rock and roll

I also compose music for industrial and promotional films, public television programs, and multimedia installations. I wrote the music that is heard in the multimedia show that runs throughout the day underneath the Gateway Arch in St. Louis; even the ride to the top and down again has a soundtrack. My music is heard on the PBS series "Breaking Bread with Father Dom," as well as on many documentaries which you will find listed elsewhere on this site.

These days I devote a great deal of my time to performing and recording as a duo with the wonderful singer Ashley Mason. Our first cd, the Christmas album “A Midnight Clear,” was released in October of 2008. The disc quickly made it’s way to the number 10 spot on the Billboard regional charts. The cd is now available at itunes and cdbaby. For more info, go here.

We have recently released our second disc, “Hold On To Love.” This collection of love songs is available on iTunes and CDBaby.com, as well as from local retailers Webster Records and Euclid Records.

Thanks for dropping by. I hope you will look around a bit, and perhaps drop me an email.
